The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a comprehensive sensitization campaign aimed at promoting the importance of national symbols and reinforcing civic values across Katsina State. The campaign, which is part of a broader national initiative, seeks to reawaken patriotism, foster unity, and encourage active citizenship through education on the National Anthem, National Pledge, and the recently introduced National Values Charter.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Katsina, the Katsina State Director of NOA, Muntari Lawal Tsagem, emphasized the critical role the agency plays in communicating government policies, promoting democratic governance, and mobilizing the public for national development. He noted that the current campaign aligns with the government’s effort to strengthen national identity through the promotion of symbols that represent Nigeria’s unity and shared heritage.

“NOA is committed to ensuring that citizens understand the significance of the National Anthem, Pledge, and other national symbols,” Tsagem stated. “These are not mere formalities; they embody the values of patriotism, loyalty, and national unity that are essential for the peace and progress of our nation.”

Tsagem explained that the agency’s mandate is to bridge the gap between the government and the citizens by effectively communicating the intentions and policies of the government, while also serving as a conduit for feedback from the people. This dual role, he said, is crucial in a democracy where informed citizen participation is key to good governance.

As part of the campaign, NOA will focus on educating the public on the National Values Charter, a document recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to serve as a guide for citizens' behavior and civic responsibilities. The Charter is designed to promote core values such as discipline, hard work, tolerance, and respect for national symbols. Tsagem urged all citizens, especially the youth, to embrace these values, which he said are critical to overcoming the challenges currently facing the country.

He also highlighted that the campaign would feature activities in schools, communities, and public forums across Katsina State to ensure that every citizen understands the importance of these symbols and values.

“Through this sensitization effort, we aim to instill a deep sense of national pride and responsibility in all Nigerians,” Tsagem said. “Our country can only thrive when its citizens are committed to its development, and the first step is by respecting and upholding the symbols that unite us.”

The NOA director further commended the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, for his proactive leadership, particularly in his engagement with youth to address insecurity and foster community involvement in governance. He noted that the Governor's efforts have significantly contributed to the stabilization of security across the state, and the NOA’s campaign would build on this progress by encouraging more civic engagement among young people.

Tsagem concluded the press conference by calling on all citizens to support the government’s efforts in building a united and peaceful Nigeria. He underscored the importance of the National Anthem and National Values Charter as tools for social cohesion and national development, urging citizens to internalize the values they represent.

“We must all play our part in promoting the ideals that will take Nigeria to greater heights,” he said. “Patriotism is not just in words, but in action, and it starts with respect for the symbols that define our national identity.”

The sensitization campaign is expected to run across all local governments in Katsina State, with plans for similar initiatives in other parts of the country in the coming months. NOA officials will collaborate with community leaders, schools, and youth groups to ensure wide-reaching impact.
